Combined Box-in-Box and Floating Floor Solution
A spring supported hotel bar with a view over the city!
Situated on the 6th floor of Hotel AMANO, in close proximity to Berlin Central Station, The Apartment Bar boasts a unique spring-supported design offering visitors a breathtaking view of the city. Equipped with an advanced power amplifier (Meyersound IntelligentDC), Precisely calibrated to optimize room acoustics, the establishment has set a new benchmark for acoustic excellence in Berlin’s bar scene.
Officially inaugurated in July 2015, The Apartment Bar has consistently maintained its status as one of the most sought-after event venues in Berlin, providing an unparalleled acoustic experience.
Challenge
The Apartment Bar, renowned for hosting regular events featuring DJs and private hire parties, faced a significant challenge: the imperative to ensure that no noise emanating from the vibrant bar disrupted the tranquility of the adjacent hotel rooms at AMANO Grand Central and the neighboring hotel. Meeting the high standards for acoustic performance was paramount. Adding to the complexity, the bar’s commitment to high-end comfort extended to incorporating underfloor heating – an unconventional feature, especially in conjunction with a low-frequency floating floor.
Solution
GERB was able to offer a suitable solution including consultation, engeneering, mounting and monitoring during the construction phase and of course the delivery of spring elements. We used spring elements type PF integrated into the floating floor. In addition to the high-quality isolation effect, low floor construction heights can be realized with this series of spring elements. The separating layer contains cavity damping, an optional extra often used technology for highacoustic performance. What made this construction also special is the combination of a floating floor systems with a box-in-box solution. There were thus floating floor areas with walls and without walls on the floating floor slab.
Technical Facts:
Structure: Floating floor with steel springs and concrete slab
Vibration source: Vibrant bar atmosphere
Base isolation frequency: 4.6 Hz
Design load: 1,400 kN
Implementation
The successful execution of the project was realized through the deployment of a bass array meticulously developed by MMT Network GmbH, complemented by targeted noise protection measures implemented by GERB. This synergistic approach ensured that there were no discernible acoustic disturbances in the hotel rooms, affirming the commitment to providing a serene and undisturbed environment for guests.
