Vibration control for structures
GERB Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) systems for long-span and slender structures
Structures such as bridges, skyscrapers, staircases, stacks, and antennas can all be oscillated to high levels of vibration from wind, earthquakes, nearby machines, or traffic. Low natural frequencies and poor natural damping are typical for such structures.
GERB Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) systems can significantly reduce these vibrations. They limit the displacements of structures by absorbing and dissipating vibrational energy. Our dampers consist out of elastic components (e.g. steel springs or pendulums), a vibrating mass and damper components (GERB VISCO® dampers).
Each device is custom designed for its respective application. To reduce vertical vibrations of large structures, GERB TMDs can be customized designed for new constructions or retrofitted for existing structures.
GERB TMD systems offer effective vibration protection and provide the following advantages:
- Simple, robust, and reliable technology
- Wear and maintenance-free structure
- No external energy supply required
- Adjustment of mass damper properties possible after assembly
- Space saving structure
- Low total costs
